Giving Tuesday

December 1, 2020.

If you plan to give, please consider Tree New Mexico’s Sustaining Donors Program, in which you can invest a small monthly donation toward increasing New Mexico’s urban forests.

Why Be a TNM Sustaining Donor?

A small monthly donation ensures thousands of trees are planted and cared for every year in NM. Tree New Mexico is using #Giving Tuesday to launch its Sustaining Donor campaign. As someone who has supported or worked with us in some way in the last few years, we want to invite you to become one of our sustaining donors. It’s simple and inexpensive. You choose how much you can afford each month and sign up for that amount to be sent to TNM – $10, $20 or $50/month.

Tree New Mexico’s mission is to help communities plant and care for trees in urban areas – large and small – throughout the Land of Enchantment. It’s a worthy mission and we invite you to participate in making it happen.

As you may know, Tree New Mexico, with the help of thousands of volunteers and excellent partners (private and public), plants more trees in urban areas of New Mexico each year than any other single group, agency or organization. We are committed to engaging citizens to create and care for urban forests across the Land of Enchantment.

Since 2017, we have planted 1880 trees in Albuquerque neighborhoods with an above 80% survival rate. We’ve given an additional 1800 smaller trees to homeowners to plant themselves for a total of more than 3600 trees in three years. All planted by thousands of hours of volunteer time.

During the pandemic in 2020, we planted 780 trees and gave away 700 trees. We are so grateful to so many wonderful volunteers that planted trees, attended trainings, lead volunteers, and canvassed neighbors, all with masks and social distancing in place.

Mayor Keller recently challenged Albuquerque residents to plant 100,000 trees in the next ten years.

Tree New Mexico, working with other organizations and city/county agencies and a large cadre of volunteers, is committed to doing its part.

Not only are we planting trees, we are also monitoring them for three years and training a group of citizen “tree stewards” to assist us and the city in the long-term care of this diversified urban canopy.

We plan to expand our planting efforts to include school campuses, business properties, and more urban areas across New Mexico.

#GivingTuesday is a global movement started in 2012 to follow #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday. It celebrates generosity, collaboration and gratitude for people making a difference in the world. Tree New Mexico staff and thousands of volunteers every year are people who make a difference in NM. We share with you a deep appreciation of trees and of the difference they can make in New Mexico.
