Exciting Leadership Update at Tree New Mexico
January 14, 2026
Join Tree New Mexico and Cool it Burque for a propagation workshop at the new South Valley TNM nursery on Sunday 1/18 at 1 PM!
Help us start seedlings for future giveaways, and take home a pot to grow your own trees at home!
We’ll have 20+ species of climate ready trees to plant, including rarely seen natives like netleaf hackberry, soapberry and Arizona walnut. By planting these seeds in the fall or winter, we prepare them to germinate in the spring.
Feel free to bring your own seeds. We especially love seeds for native, climate ready and/or food-bearing trees!
(Check if a tree is climate-ready in Albuquerque with The Nature Conservancy’s list, and locate native trees near you with this iNaturalist project.)
Location: 6800 Twister Way in the South Valley. Entrance is off Lagunitas Lane, look for a sign.
Here’s a few of the trees that we grew at our nursery last year and will have available for planting on Sunday:

Netleaf Hackberries (Celtis reticulata) are easy to germinate and tough trees that thrive in urban areas. Berries are edible for birds and humans.

Soapberries (Sapndius drummondii) is a drought-tolerant Southern NM native with flowers that attract pollinators and golden berries traditionally used as laundry soap.

These Mexican buckeyes (Ungnadia speciosa) will grow into a shrub or small tree that makes pink flowers in spring and interesting seed pods.

Cliffrose (Purshia stansburiana) is a foothills native shrub or small tree with large white and yellow flowers.

Seepwillow (Baccharis salicina) is a small tree native to the bosque. It’s easy and fast to grow, and its white flowers are an important nectar source for monarchs and other pollinators.
